The Ultrasonic Edge Sensor FX 46 is a high-precision web edge detection solution engineered for reliable edge scanning of sound-reflective materials such as paper, plastic films, and laminated substrates. Using an advanced ultrasonic scanning principle, the sensor delivers stable and accurate edge positioning, completely independent of material transparency, color, or print variation.

Designed in a compact fork-type construction, the FX 46 sensor integrates seamlessly into pivoting frames and narrow web guiding systems, making it ideal for laminators, slitters, and flexible packaging machinery. The sensor features fully integrated electronics with CAN bus communication, ensuring complete compatibility with Digital Control Systems (DCS) for precise and synchronized machine operation.

The internal transmitter emits ultrasonic waves, while the receiver measures the reflected amplitude to determine web position within a ±3 mm field of view. This signal is digitized via an internal AD converter and processed by a microprocessor before being transmitted to the controller and connected system components, ensuring fast response and high positional accuracy.

Equipped with internal temperature compensation, the FX 46 maintains a stable operating point even under varying ambient conditions. An integrated LED positioning indicator simplifies installation and alignment, while the removable display makes it suitable for light-sensitive material applications. Its resistance to dust and contamination further enhances reliability in demanding industrial environments.
